The announcement follows news that state gambling revenue had hit a record high of $3.4 billion in revenue last year, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

“We are excited to announce that we are now selling Powerball and Mega Millions tickets online,” Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko said in a press release. “Selling lottery online is a big part of our effort to appeal to new customers and meet our players where they already are — which is online. This is an important step that will help us continue generating funds to benefit older Pennsylvanians.”Lottery officials said players buying Powerball and Mega Millions tickets online will be able to choose their own numbers or select "quick pick" option for random numbers, similar to purchasing a lottery ticket in-person.

To purchase lottery tickets online, players will need to sign up for a iLottery account and deposit funds to make a purchase.New players are required to securely submit proof of identity and age. Players must be 18 or older.

Accounts will provide information for players about their activity, including their transaction history, which will include past and current drawings and plays.

Players using the iLottery website will also have the option to purchase multiple tickets and to buy tickets up to 26 drawings (13 weeks) in advance, officials said.By law, online lottery players must be physically located in the state of Pennsylvania to play for money and win prizes,” Svitko said in the release. “As with all Lottery games, we urge players to play responsibly and always within their means.”

The iLottery platform also includes additional features that aims to promote responsible play. Features include player-controlled settings such as time limits, deposit limits and spend limits.
